Same here - Andrew has received the flu shot for the two flu seasons he's been in treatment (including during frontline treatment), and will get it again this year. Even with the shot, Andrew did get the flu last year, though... maybe because of the lack of immune response or maybe it was a slightly different strain, who knows. Hopefully, having the shot made it less serious. It took him awhile, but he did get over it just fine, with no in-patient stay. I have always gotten the shots for my kids and me, but my husband has never been a believer in them. The first year, our onc told him to get one or move out until April. After some consideration, he got the shot. :-) Oh, and we were told the same thing about Flu-mist - not for immediate family, but not to worry about other kids he interacts with who may get it.
?
Ann, that's interesting about the steroids, I had never heard that. I thought Andrew had gotten lucky by getting the shot while under propofol at clinic visits, but maybe that's why his didn't work last year. Hmmmmmmm......
