MANAMA, Bahrain ? Bahrain's highest criminal court has adjourned the trial of three former editors for the main opposition newspaper accused of unethical coverage of anti-government protests earlier this year in the Gulf kingdom.
The lawyers for the ex-editors at Al Wasat newspaper asked the court Sunday to clear the defendants of all of charges, which include publishing false news and endangering public order.
The court set the next hearing for Oct. 11.
The trial is part of a sweeping crackdown on the Shiite-led opposition demanding greater freedoms in the strategic island nation that hosts the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet.
Bahrain's Sunni rulers opened reconciliation talks with the opposition on Saturday.
