Some people really think that our pets lack the capacity to show empathy for their human companions. But after many years of sharing relationships with pets, I must say that I wholeheartedly disagree; I am a firm believer that our furry friends really do care for us.

For example: I am prone to migraine headaches, so the moment I begin to feel one coming on, I seek the comfort of a quiet darkened room. Within minutes, Sir Hubble Pinkerton, our white Oriental Shorthair, starts searching for me and abandons his cozy spot on the living room sofa where he was cuddled up with his brother.

The moment he finds me, he jumps up on the bed, sits on my back, starts purring and begins licking my hair. Then, like a skilled professional massage therapist, he gently starts kneading out the knots in my sore shoulder. And most of the time, following his tender ministrations, I fall into a deep sleep, waking up refreshed and pain-free. I have absolutely no idea how he knows I am hurting, but I highly suspect he is actually aware I am suffering, and instinctively wants to help.

But for anyone who continues to remain skeptical about pets showing their love for us, the other day I found a video uploaded to YouTube by aarongrant1 that offered the ultimate proof of my hypothesis. The video was uploaded to YouTube in September and has recently gone ?viral?, with over 4,521,752 hits and 15,203 ?likes?.

The video features Stewie, a black kitty belonging to Aaron Grant. The Grant?s new baby, Connor, is in a little bed, fussy and crying. For some mysterious reason, Stewie reaches out to the infant, starting ever so gently to pat Connor?s head with his paw. Almost immediately Connor stops crying, smiles slightly and falls to sleep.?

Whether you?re a skeptic or a believer, this short clip is definitely a treat to watch. Who knows, you may also be inspired to take a nap.
