I'm judging you for taking your kid to 'Predator'

Our TODAYMoms blog is running a story about "The Mom-Judging Olympics," how mothers check out other mom's parenting habits and silently (or sometimes loudly) criticize them.

The story focused on being judged for things such as working too much, breast-feeding too long ? or not long enough, or not having sweeper lines in the carpet. But there's an entertainment twist to the Sanctimommy judging: Kids at age-inappropriate movies.

I see a lot of movies for my job, and at almost every R-rated offering, I see someone trot in holding the hand of a toddler, or I hear that child's telltale wail after the violence begins. Sometimes I can't hear the child once the film starts to roll, but yes, my judgey mom side is still worrying about them, wondering what they're thinking when that guy gets brutally stabbed in "The Expendables" or almost every single character gets violently torn apart in "Predators."

I try and make excuses for the parents sometimes, but my judgey side keeps rearing up. It's hard to get babysitters. (SO STAY AT HOME!) Maybe the kid is sleeping. (BUT MAYBE NOT!) It's just a movie. (TELL THAT TO THE NIGHTMARES!)

How about this ? they actually see age-appropriate movies? Disney can be scary enough ? who among us was scarred at an early age by the loss of Bambi's mom? Mufasa's "Lion King" death wasn't exactly sunshine and lollipops either.

I'm willing to be known as the neighborhood mean movie mom. I've written before about how thrilled I was that Disney released "Winnie the Pooh," a film where the worst thing that happens is Eeyore temporarily loses his tail. Yes, I can only control what my child sees, not the decisions other parents make. But that doesn't mean I'm not sitting there in the dark, getting my Sanctimommy on.

How about you? Have you seen kids at movies they're obviously too young for? Which ones? Discuss on our Facebook page.
