Our Village is a Little Different ~ Product Reviews and Homeschool ...

?

I just finished reading Recovering Faith ? Stories of Catholics Who Came Home. ? I thought it was a wonderful book. ?Each chapter is the story of a fairly well known person who had been raised Catholic, drifted away from the Church, and then found their way back. ?Their stories are interspersed with short sidebars which explain or provide a deeper description of a theme presented in the story.

I was raised Catholic, and during High School I was an active member of a Catholic Youth Retreat movement. ?I graduated and went to an all girls Catholic college. ?I have always loved the traditions, the rituals, and the beautiful history that are a part of my faith. ?Even with this upbringing and education, there have been ebbs and flows in my spiritual life. ?My stories aren?t dramatic, or book worthy, but I could absolutely relate to some of the emotions described by the contributors.

The chapters are short, but compelling. ?I found myself grabbing for the Kleenex a few times, too. ?Whether the drift was due to complacency, a total rejection of God, a switch to a Protestant church, or other reasons ? each story held my interest. ?The circumstances were all different, but the pull of the Holy Spirit was clear in every case.

The book concludes with a few pages of Afterward titled An Invitation to Consider Coming Home. ?It holds some helpful hints and encouragement ?for anyone who might want to return to Catholicism but might not be sure where to begin. ? There is also an index of the in-chapter sidebars, making it easy to go back and find the pages with information such as ?how to make a confession or what Catholics believe.
