Washington pummels Pekin football in 55-19 Mid-Illini victory

?Casey didn?t strike out Friday night.

Washington senior Casey Danley struck for five touchdowns as the undefeated and state-ranked Panthers pummeled Pekin 55-19 in a Mid-Illini Conference football game at Babcook Field.

The 6-foot, 185-pound tailback scored on his first three carries, racing 65, 54 and 67 yards in the opening quarter, as Class 5A No. 6 Washington (5-0, 3-0) grabbed a 28-12 lead.

Danley had a 2-yard run for a TD and he threw a 76-yard option pass to Hayden Bodine for a third-quarter score.

The converted wide receiver, who ran for 244 yards and two TDs last week vs. Dunlap, finished with 270 yards rushing on 12 carries against Pekin.

?Casey is fast and strong. He?s a good athlete,? said Washington coach Darrell Crouch. ?I thought this game (against Pekin) would be a seven- or 14-point difference. I never would have predicted this score. We executed well on offense.?

Of the 525 yards in total offense compiled by the Panthers, 477 came on the ground.? ?They?re more physical than us,? Pekin coach Doug Nutter said.

Already depleted by injuries, the Dragons (3-2, 1-2) lost two more important players when leading rusher Tyler Bucco (knee) and Michael Bianchi (ankle) were hurt.

?We?ll have to play with who we have,? said Nutter, whose squad hosts Metamora next week.

Pekin scored first Friday when quarterback Chase Poole hooked up with Mat McClanahan on a 22-yard touchdown pass.

But it took Washington just 13 seconds to take the lead for good 7-6. Danley collected a pitch from quarterback Colton Marshall and raced 65 yards down the right side into the end zone.

Jake Miller kicked seven PATs.

Danley slipped several tackles en route to his 54-yard score, and his 67-yarder was right up the middle.

The Panthers also scored in the opening quarter on a perfectly thrown 47-yard pass from Marshall to Bodine.

Jake Clark ran 33 yards and backup QB Brock Crothers ran 68 yards for scores inthe fourth for Washington.

Pekin also scored on a 1-yard runs by Poole and Ryan Patterson.
