In fact, developing a habit for doing something increases the chances of you actually, well, doing it ? and small business marketing is no different.

Here?s a quick strategy for making the most of the next upcoming holidays.

1. Grab Your Calendar?

Make a short list of holidays and celebrations that will take place during the next four months. During this step consider everything from Thanksgiving to Saint Patrick?s Day ? you just want to know what?s coming up.

2. Brainstorm Your Favorites

After you have your four month list in front of you, it?s time to brainstorm. Do any holidays or key events naturally fit with your brand? Or are there ways to organically partner your business with a particular season? For example, for the first day of spring how can your product or service help your target audience with a little spring cleaning? After all everything from homes, cars and communication strategies can use some sprucing up.

3. Save The Date

After your brainstorming session lock in on one idea. Don?t choose your holidays for the entire year, just choose the very next event that you want to focus on, something that?s about eight weeks away. Remember, the goal here is to create a habit. To make this happen you just need to get started, experience a simple victory and then do it again. Once you have a habit for marketing, it will be much easier to plan out your year.

4. Design Your Pieces?

Once you know your holiday, it?s time to create your marketing pieces ? flyers, post cards, website banners. This section also includes any blog post that you?re going to share about your event, sale or promotion, as well as anything that you plan to send out via email. Don?t just wing it. Sit down with your team and design the words and images that you will use to inform your audience about what you have to offer during this season.

Give yourself two weeks to get your marketing language and design together. You?ll also use that same period of time to print post cards, update your website, and so on.

5. Launch Your Campaign

Now you?re ready to launch. At least six weeks ahead of the event, season or holiday begin to share your marketing pieces and talk up your promotion. Spread the word ? face to face, on your website, through social media, with press releases. Use every avenue that you have.

Once you complete your campaign, review the results, tweak your strategy and then do it again. Remember, you?re creating a habit of year round marketing and that boils down to those simple techniques applied consistently.
